Alexander von Moltke

HOW IT ALL STARTED

I decided at the age of fifteen that I wanted to become an antiques dealer. My interest in antiques, art and architecture was sparked at a young age by my father who filled the family house with gems found at markets, London antique dealers, auction houses and from his travels.

As the years passed my interest and knowledge grew exponentially as I matured through antique furniture restoration, working for dealers, trading at Portobello Antiques Market and sharing shops on London’s Kings Road - culminating in my own gallery just off London’s Pimlico Road, at the time the epicentre of the London antiques trade.

In my new premises I quickly realised that today’s international affluent client was no longer drawn by the taste of their parents and demanded a younger, fresher look and so in the final year of the millennium I became one of the first dealers in London to bring previously unseen 20th century furniture, lighting and Murano glass onto the London market.

I became a supplier to London and New York’s finest interior designers and was once written up in a stateside magazine as being “one of London’s style gurus”. Having commenced with the Art Deco look of the 20’s and 30’s, I progressed to the unparalleled chic of the 1940’s, it’s own design blueprint firmly grounded in that of 18th century furniture, my former love. This new direction, now termed as mid-century modern, was to be easily blended with antique furniture, as well as the 1960’s and 70’s and contemporary art, forming the basis of today’s metropolitan interiors worldwide.

A decendant from a noble German family, my career in the arts has been marked by my inner-most aspiration and desire to recreate the levels of quality of workmanship that have lasted through previous centuries until today.

I’d love to design a project for you!
